No(w)here
Bryan Graf and Reveille Barnes
Curated by Walker Waugh
December 13, 2015 - January 31, 2016
Opening Reception: Sunday, December 13, 7-9pm
Peninsula is pleased to present No(w)here, a two-person exhibition featuring the work of Bryan Graf and Reveille Barnes, curated by Walker Waugh. The exhibition features a selection of handmade porcelain objects by Barnes, set among an installation of photograms, wallpapers, and prints on linen by Graf.
No(w)here juxtaposes the work of a photographer and a ceramicist, examining how each artist subtly deconstructs formal modalities of image and object production. Graf's photos utilize digitally captured florals, patterns, and psychic landscapes which the artist mirrors, layers, and exposes to analogue techniques, rendering them as unique object installations. Barnes' porcelain vessels are chiral pairs, near but not quite mirrored objects whose simple elegance belie their exquisite craft. Ideas surrounding memory, reliquary, ritual and repetition accentuate the work's lightness of touch.
Bryan Graf (American, b.1982) has an MFA in Photography from Yale University. He is the author of four artist monographs and in 2014 had his first solo museum exhibition, Moving Across the Interior, at ICA @ MECA in Portland, Maine. Graf is currently the inaugural photography lab artist-in-residence at Pioneer Works in Red Hook.
Reveille Barnes (American, b.1979) has a BFA in Ceramic Art from Alfred University. No(w)here is Barnes' first exhibition in New York since 2008.
