To snip is to exact a procedure of light maintenance - a controlled and mostly benign operation of precision violence. It’s a visit to the barber shop or the remedy for an unraveling thread. The snip also refers to the stuff of surgery, of birth and ritual: the episiotomy, the umbilical cord, the foreskin.
Trauma and catharsis beget our psycho-spiritual conditions. We grow, we injure, we heal. The scars are exit wounds but sometimes the shrapnel can remain.
Peninsula is pleased to present Psychic Snip, an installation of drawings by Brooklyn based artist Jerry Blackman. All works untitled, charcoal and chalk on paper with hardware.
